Overview

This policy explains how ExcelTool.io ("we") handles your data when you use our website and tools.

Your files stay on your device

Most ExcelTool tools work entirely in your browser. When you view, convert or edit a file with them, the file never leaves your computer. We do not upload it, store it or see what is in it. The two AI features below are the only exceptions, and both are clearly labelled.

AI extraction on Image to Excel

The Image to Excel tool has an optional AI extraction mode. You choose it before you upload. If you do:

• Only the image you selected is sent to an AI model provider, to read the table out of it.
• We do not save the image or the table, and our logs do not include them. Basic request details, such as the time and your IP address, may be logged.
• We cannot vouch for how the AI provider keeps or uses data. For sensitive images, use the tool's Private mode, which runs entirely in your browser.

Chat with Excel

The Chat with Excel tool opens your workbook in your browser, but its AI chat is not local. The page warns you first and asks you to tick a consent box before anything is sent. When you ask a question:

• Your original file is not uploaded. Instead, your browser sends a copy of the workbook's data (cell values, formulas and sheet names) with your question and recent messages to an AI model provider.
• For large workbooks only part of the data is sent. The page shows how much before you agree.
• We do not save the data, your question or the answer, and our logs do not include them. Basic request details, such as the time and your IP address, may be logged.
• If you are not allowed to share the workbook with an outside AI provider, do not tick the consent box. Use our local tools instead.

What we collect

Analytics

We may collect anonymous usage data, such as pages visited, time on page, browser, device type and country. It cannot identify you. We use it to improve the site.

Cookies

We may use essential cookies to remember your preferences, such as dark mode, and to make the site work. Our own tools do not set tracking cookies. Our advertising partner uses cookies as described below.

Advertising

ExcelTool.io is free because it shows ads. Third-party advertising vendors may use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. Ads never see the contents of your files.

You can opt out of personalised ads in your browser or ad settings, for example by blocking third-party cookies. US residents can also use the Do Not Sell or Share link described below.

Who we share it with

• Hosting provider: keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and request times.
• Advertising partner: shows the ads and may set cookies.
• Analytics: helps us understand how the site is used.
• AI providers: process only the content you choose to send with the AI features.

Security

We do not keep your files or AI requests. The AI features do send your chosen content to outside providers, so do not use them for data you are not allowed to share. The site is served over HTTPS.

Children

ExcelTool.io is not meant for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

We may update this policy. If we make significant changes, we will post a notice on this website.

Your choices

ExcelTool has no accounts and no database of your files. You can clear saved preferences by clearing your browser's cookies and local storage.

US state privacy rights

Some US states, such as California, give residents rights over their personal information. We do not sell personal information for money and never receive your files. But the ad cookies and device identifiers our advertising partner uses to personalise ads can count as “selling” or “sharing” data, or as targeted advertising, under those laws.

You can opt out:

• Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information. Where a US state privacy law applies to you, this link (also at the bottom of every page) opens the opt-out dialog: Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information. After you opt out, that browser only gets non-personalised ads.
• Global Privacy Control. Where the US state opt-out applies, a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser also counts as an opt-out.
• Cookies. Blocking or clearing third-party cookies also stops ads based on them.

You will still see ads, but they will be based on the page you are reading, not on your activity elsewhere. An opt-out only applies to the browser and device you used.

You also have the right to know, correct and delete your personal information. We have no accounts and keep no database of visitors' personal information, so there is normally nothing for us to share or delete. Data held by our advertising partner is managed through its own privacy tools. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
